How Can We Beat The Gas Pump - There has been a lot of ideas for ways to improve our means of transportation. There has been the electric car with loads of batteries and the solar powered car. There is a new hydrogen powered car due to roll off the assembly lines soon.
These are all good ideas and attempts at solving our fuel cost problem. However, the battery car has a short run time and needs to be recharged frequently. The charge is not enough to make a cross country trip.
The solar powered car relies on the sun to recharge the battery for its power. On a cloudy day the power derived from the sun is at a minimal. In the Northern states and countries there are often many days with no sun which means that the solar power is also at a minimum.
And of course, there is the Hydrogen powered car. I think Jay Leno has one and another is due to go to Jamie Lee Curtis. The only problem there is that there are no refueling stations anywhere except in the southern part of California. How long will it be until the rest of the country can fuel up and at what cost?
The same is true of the electric car. If I need a recharge miles from home will there be a charging station or point available and again, at what cost.
I'm sure those costs to refuel would be less than the prices we are paying for gas but when we become dependant on them will the their cost go on a rampage and hit the ceiling like gas has done.
Wouldn't it be great if we could drive our cars for free with the only cost to us being in the normal maintenance. Like tires and occasionally a little lubrication.
I am sure someone out there in this large world of ours has had the same thoughts that I have but I haven't heard anything about it so here is my thoughts.
Why not modify a car to run on a battery pack of some kind which could be powered by wind? That is right, I said "powered by wind". No, I'm not talking about placing a windmill on top or the car and waiting for a windy day.
What I'm talking about is every car has a forward motion which creates a movement of air which we refer to as a wind. Cars are aerodynamically designed to move the air around and over the car to create less drag and allow for smooth and more efficient performance.
Some of that air could and should be directed through the car. Why not make use of it. If we installed into the framework of the car a pair of specially designed tubes we could capture the moving air.
The air could be channeled through some high pressure vent which would increase its velocity and direct it to a turbine of some kind to generate an electrical charge. The electricity generated would charge and recharge the battery pack. The battery could be recharged as we drive the car.
That battery charge could then power the radios, headlight and tail lights and any other accessories and an electric motor which is used for the forward motion needed to reach our destination and for the charging system.
The system would also include a 110 volt power adapter for times of a needed charge without the forward motion. If necessary, it could also include a solar panel as another power substitute.
The system should work well with a small car or a large car and even on a pickup. It would even have possibilities for some of the big rigs that carry freight.
In the event the turbine charge was more than the batteries need the balance could be channeled off in a different direction. In the case of when the car was in a reverse gear the power stored in the battery would be the power source.
The amount of power generated would be dependant upon the amount of forward motion. A filtering system should be in place to keep the turbine clean and another in place to filter any exhausting air. The exhausting air would be clean and good for the environment and reduce pollution.
The use of air motion to power our vehicles would not only save on oil and oil byproducts but it would also be of great benefit to the environment and in turn help our ozone layer and keep money in our pockets.
Perhaps I should talk to Al Gore and have him help me build the car. He is trying to stop global warming. This car would help. If my idea were to be good and take off the cost of oil products would be greatly reduced and I would never again have to play a part in the construction of another new building in Dubai.
I know there would be a lot of money to made from it. I am also smart enough to know that it wont be me who gets rich from it but maybe someone could mention my name in the annals of history. Or maybe just name a car after me.
Can't you just see it now, "And now Ladies and Gentlemen, The General Motor Company is proud to present for the very first time the all new Glossy Red 2010 Chevrolet ELROE Convertible." Get it? Elroe? you know, like L. Roe. Ok, it could be a Ford. Oh well, a guy can still dream.
Go on down to your Dealer and ask them for a test drive in the new ELROE car. I dare you.
I offered my idea to both Ford and Chevy. Ford couldn't spare the time to say it stinks or what. Chevy gave me a form to submit the idea to their design crew. Maybe I should try Honda or Nissan. What do you think?
